The parts came in*, so it’s time to start work. With luck, the assembly will go smoothly. Unless I got a faulty component, that should be the case.
Assembling a computer is a lot simpler than people assume. As long as you know the basics of what’s going on and never try to force a component where it won’t fit, you’ll be alright. Sometimes you have to improvise a little, such as when the SSD assumes you’ll be installing it in a 2.5″ laptop bay instead of a 3.5″ desktop bay and doesn’t include conversion hardware. The solution in this case is just to mount the SSD sideways across a few of the internal drive bays; it weighs only a few ounces and generates negligible heat, so that’s ok.
* With the exception of the secondary hard drive, which is apparently still in shipping. That’s fine; it should be no big deal to do system assembly and burn in now and then throw in the second drive before I start transferring files.
