so far i’ve been lucky enough to escape that kind of life

I’ve started watching The Office, but it’s hard. There are parts that I really enjoy, but I find myself actually walking out of the room in disgust whenever the boss character gets too much screen time. The actor does a tremendous job of portraying an offensive, clueless idiot; I just for some reason can’t seem to enjoy watching that. There’s only so much amusement I can derive from seeing everyone else standing in horrified silence for minutes at a time.

This happens to exactly mirror my experience with that show — the interactions that don’t involve the boss character are very amusing; the boss character was amusing for about five minutes; the only problem is that the boss character continues to be the main focus beyond those five minutes, when I’ve completely lost interest.

Absolutely agree. Much of that show makes me squirm with discomfort, if not actually get up for a snack.

fwiw, friends tell me that the British version of The Office is far superior. They say they’ve rented it from Blockbuster.
