precipitation without a precise name

It is raining ice right now. It is not hailing, and it is not raining, and it is not snowing: little drops of ice very near freezing fall from the sky. The impact energy when they land melts them just long enough to conform to the surrounding ice on the ground, then they re-freeze. The surface is slick enough to make pedestrian locomotion tricky, to say nothing of automotive.

Nobody believes me when I say that I love this kind of weather.

It’s fun until you sprain a tailbone… then the next few days are not so fun…

I must admit, though, when it gets broken up enough on trails that nubby tires can reach mud underneath, it’s a lot of fun to ride on with stiff clothes… the stiffness protects you from the sharp edges enough that if you fall it’s like a luge built just for your fall :)
