I just learned why the company hadn’t yet contacted me to determine whether they needed to find a replacement teacher: somehow, their records got skewed, and they thought I arrived and started teaching six weeks after I actually did.
With luck, they’ll recheck, discover their records were wrong, and the issue will blow over. Still, the worst case is always the first thing to spring to my mind, and it’s possible they’ll give me trouble about the year-end bonus. That would be highly annoying–I want to keep that cash!
I did find out at least that the old owner’s heir does not intend to shut down the business, so I don’t have to worry about that anymore. I just wish I could have found that out without introducing a new worry in the process.
