For the record, this is the first time I’ve linked to a Penny Arcade Rant, because usually I figure that those things have enough exposure anyway in the world of the web. However, this time I feel strongly enough about the matter at hand that I had to.
Moonbase Commander is the best electronic competitive multiplayer game that I have ever played. It feels like a console game in that anyone can sit down and play for 20 minutes and enjoy it right off the bat, but there is enough skill inherent that newbies will be utterly destroyed by people who have invested the effort to master it.
Unfortunately, it was stuck in the $20 bargain bin from the very day of its release, and never got any kind of major press. Essentially, it was invisible.
Putting this game on xbox live–this game, instead of Prince of Persia, or Ghost Recon, or any of the big name titles–would make me want to buy one. Or at least, make friends with someone who did so that I could play on their machine occasionally.
It’s that good.
