I’m guessing some miscommunication between the hiring manager and the rejection manager

I got two emails today from an English teaching company which rejected me months ago. They politely informed me that the hiring season was closed, and that the next time I might be able to apply for a job with them would be early next year.

What on earth? I’d already known that I didn’t have the job for months. Why bring it up now?
