As of two hours ago, there were two companies in Japan which I’ve been considering top prospects. I’ve interviewed for both of them on the telephone, and I have an interview scheduled in person for the second one the day after graduation.

These two jobs are both for medium-sized companies, though one seems significantly larger than the other. The larger one is the one for which I have the interview scheduled, and it is also the one with fewer and worse benefits. Moreover, the position at the larger one doesn’t start until September, and only lasts six months, with possible renewal at a different location after a re-application process. Needless to say, I would take the job at the smaller company without hesitation over the one at the larger company.

As of one hour ago, I have received official approval from the head office of the smaller company. They have an available opening in Ichihara, in Chiba prefecture. This is very close to Tokyo, and seems just about ideal from my standpoint. It also begins midway through June, which is when I am hoping to go.

I have replied, telling them that I am very interested in the position, and that I’d like about a week before I absolutely commit myself. There is a slim possibility that I will be offered a better job within that time period, in which case I’d have to make the call whether or not to abandon this one. However, I doubt that will happen.

I am not yet absolutely assured a job. Securing the approval of the head office is only the second-to-last step, as the individual franchise owner has the final say. I may have another interview, or I may just be offered the job. Ideally, they will work this out within the current work day, and I will wake up tomorrow morning to a job offer in my inbox. In the worst case scenario, the franchise owner will refuse to hire me because he doesn’t like my haircut or something. I am hoping that the latter scenario fails to occur.

Right now, I am very excited, and very happy. One might almost call my mood giddy. Things are working out for me now.
