another thing that, although it is rare, irritates me greatly:

i do not buy many computer games anymore. i used to quite frequently. then time became a precious resource. also, i developed the knack of reading reviews, so that i would not accidentally buy a shitty game.

so what typically happens now is that i will read a game preview or review as my first contact with that game. i will think to myself, “well, that sounds pretty cool.” i will look at other reviews.

if all is well, the reviews all basically say to me, “this is a good game. this game is worth your time. it is well-made.” and so finally, i’ll go back to the publisher’s website, to see about pricing, availability, etc. (the above process has taken maybe 15 minutes so far at most). and once in a very small while, that publisher has the audacity to put up something like “released for macintosh only. windows port in progress.”

this is what angers me because the only reason i continue to use windows is for compatibility with high-end applications. which basically means games and photoshop. because it’s easy to get equivalent copies of all the low-end applications that i’m interested in.

i can only hope that once wine and/or lindows come out that i will be able to run any game ever. because they will run the windows games. and what with os10 sitting on top of unix, i would hope it could run the mac games as well, perhaps with a little bit of finesseing.

i can only hope
