So. Today I was woken up by my parents walking into my room and telling me that I had to go get in the car, be ready to drive it right now. This was, by the way, an hour before I had my alarm clock set for. The assumption is apparently that I’ll just throw on my glasses and hop in the car in my boxers, and be ready to drive off on whatever errand they need me for at the moment.

The annoying thing is that I did exactly that, twice before this summer. I only did it because I thought it was a one-time emergency, and that I’d not be expected to do it again. Apparently, I was only encouraging them to continue this sort of behavior.

Now, you have to understand two things. The first is simply that pride is important to me. This is why I despise wearing my glasses, because not only are they an old prescription, but they look rather bad. This is why I am somewhat modest, and really prefer not to go out in public in my boxers.

The second thing is that what with one thing and another, I’ve cultivated the talent to put on my contacts and clothes in under five minutes.

So I don’t think it was unreasonable of me this morning, before rushing down to give my sister a ride to school, to throw on some clothes and my contacts. My parents had other ideas, apparently, as they were yelling at me the whole while and as I headed out the door.

I don’t need that. I’m doing them a favor. If I so much as point that out to them, of course, they’ll take it as insolence and punish me in some way or another. But the last thing I want when doing someone a favor is to be yelled at for it.
