I just had an interesting idea. Many of the old theories of magic postulated that magic worked becuase of the mysterious power of the word. Mages were people who could harness this power and use it to their own ensd.
This sounds something like programming, to me.
Could it be that in a world like the matrix, one in which all reality is a simulation within a computer, mages were the people who could write their own code? So that sometimes, things went perfectly, sometimes, there were bugs? And that sometimes these bugs produced catastrophis results?
Could ti be that the reason there are no mages in the world is that this ability, of particular entities within the simulation to fiddle with the mechanics of the simulation itself, was discovered as a bug in the simulation code and was fixed? That Reality v1.2 solved this?
I know it’s jsut mental wanking, but it’s fun to thing about things like this…
